The Smoking Guns and Blue Dress Moments of Climategate

@Kruddler, that is *not* argument from popularity.

The "skeptical" argument based on the opinions of fake scientists and on the opinions of scientists in fields other than climatology, such as the Oregon Petition and Inhofe's notorious, mostly falsified lists of "dissenters," **are** examples of argumentum ad populum because the denier lists of "scientists" are not legitimate authorities in this field. Nor is the scientific consensus any "authority" fallacy because there are objective criteria for the status of "expert" or "authority" in science.

The minimum standard is regular publication in the peer-reviewed journals, and among all scientists who meet that standard, 97.5% agree. Competition continues for the best theory to explain the interaction of as many of the details of climate as possible, and to predict future trends more precisely, but **all** competing theories share the characteristic that CO₂ is modeled as **the driver** of the warming trend since the late 20th century because every model which does not treat CO₂ as the driver is unable to account for the observed temperature trend.

Therefore, the science is settled. It is a proven fact that human emissions of CO₂ cause global warming.
