It was in the top 10 -- #7 if you count only land temperatures, #5 including ocean temperatures -- but not #1, because the Sun's output was particularly low.
This is hard for deniars to grasp, but good for my allies (I include you, okay?) to know, so I'm going to do my best to explain. While Solar output was especially low, global mean temperature was still especially high last year, because CO₂ was still so much heat that it was like wearing a thick sweater in "comfortable" late spring weather.
