As molar absorptivity (ε) increases due to increasing CO₂ concentration, then total transmitted radiation at top of atmosphere does not have to increase just because the black-body radiation increases, but only if that increase is MORE than the decrease in transmittance, represented in the equation above as an increase in absorbance (A) because that equation is linear in those variables, thus easier for chemistry majors.
